Jarrod Bowen has issued an emotional apology to West Ham United supporters after the club’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed on the final day of the season.

The Hammers ended their 14-year stay in the top flight despite beating Leeds United 3-0 on Sunday, as results elsewhere condemned the east London side to the Championship.

Bowen, who captained West Ham throughout a difficult campaign, admitted the season ended in disappointment and frustration.

“It’s hard to post something like this when all you’re feeling is embarrassment and pain,” Bowen wrote on Instagram.

“We just weren’t good enough. Simple as that. And that’s why the season ended the way it did.”

    Bowen reflects on painful season

The England forward described relegation as the lowest moment of his career, especially after helping West Ham win the Europa Conference League in 2023.

“Winning that trophy in Prague was the best night of my career,” Bowen said.

    “Sunday was the worst.”

The 29-year-old also praised the supporters for remaining loyal despite the club’s struggles throughout the season.

“To the fans, you didn’t let us down once,” he added.

“The support home and away never changed, even when things weren’t good enough from us on the pitch. We should have given you more. You deserved more.”

    Uncertainty surrounds club future

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo is reportedly expected to leave the club after failing to keep West Ham in the Premier League following his arrival earlier in the season.

Speaking after the final match, Nuno admitted the scale of the disappointment.

“It’s a moment of deep sadness for all of us at the club,” the Portuguese coach said.

“We lost the privilege of deciding our own future.”

West Ham now face a crucial summer as they prepare for life in the Championship, with speculation already growing around the futures of several key players.

Despite the uncertainty, Bowen insisted the club must focus on returning to the Premier League as quickly as possible.

“One thing I know about this club is that it has the desire and fight to bounce back from this,” he said.

“This club belongs in the Premier League.”
