Bro Kendricks El Centers Love on New Single “143”

The Detroit artist reflects on loss, spirituality, and personal transformation as he prepares what he calls his final album.

Bro Kendricks El is not treating “143” like a simple love song.

For the Detroit artist, the new single and accompanying music video emerge from a place that he says once felt far removed from love. The title draws from the familiar beeper-era code for “I love you,” but the song is not simply an exercise in nostalgia.

Instead, “143” represents a return to something Bro Kendricks El once struggled to recognize as a guiding force in his life.

“Love is the strongest force in the universe,” he says.

The single is available now and forms part of what the artist has described as his final album.

A Detroit Story Told Through Music

Bro Kendricks El began making music because he believed he had a story that needed to be told. Detroit was at the center of that motivation.

He felt the city was not always represented with the complexity, honesty and depth it deserved, so he began writing his own experiences into his music.

Having written songs since he was 12, Bro Kendricks El grew up surrounded by the legacy of Motown while also absorbing influences from multiple genres. That musical education helped him develop a sound that he now describes as “one with nature.”

The approach is built around slow, reflective grooves that allow listeners to ride, relax and absorb the meaning behind the lyrics.

His perspective has evolved alongside his life.

Bro Kendricks El speaks openly about experiencing tragic losses within his family between 1980 and 1990. He also discusses discovering the Moorish Science Temple of America while serving time in federal prison.

He does not present those experiences for shock value. Instead, he identifies them as part of the foundation that changed his belief system, deepened his faith in God, and helped shape the person he has become.

“I only want to guide people in that which is right,” he says.

    Choosing Love After Hardship

“143” reflects that sense of responsibility without becoming overly forceful in its delivery.

The song moves at an unhurried and contemplative pace. It is designed for a long ride, a quiet room or any environment where listeners can take time to consider its message.

For Bro Kendricks El, writing about love was not a decorative or commercially convenient decision.

“Coming from where I come from, love was the least thing on my mind,” he says.

That admission gives the single additional weight. “143” becomes more than a romantic theme. It represents a correction, a reconsideration and a conscious decision to place love at the center of the story he will leave behind.

A Video That Avoids the Expected

The accompanying music video follows the same unconventional instinct.

Bro Kendricks El allowed the creative team behind the visual to develop the concept freely, offering only one essential direction: Give the world something out of the ordinary.

The result places “143” in a visual space that mirrors the artist himself. It is personal, spiritual, and intentionally resistant to easy categorization.

As Bro Kendricks El moves toward what he calls his final album, he is not attempting to erase the more difficult portions of his journey or package transformation as something simple.

Instead, he is placing love at the front of the story because of how long it took him to reach that point. He wants the final message of his recording career to direct listeners toward something better.

In the following interview, Bro Kendricks El discusses the creation of “143,” the influence of Detroit, his spiritual foundation, and what he hopes his music will leave behind.
