Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has publicly disagreed with manager Liam Rosenior following the club’s 3-0 loss to Brighton, insisting effort was not the issue behind their poor run of form.

The defeat extended Chelsea’s losing streak to five consecutive Premier League matches without scoring, deepening concerns over the team’s performance levels.

Rosenior had labelled the display “unacceptable in every aspect” and questioned the players’ desire, but Chalobah offered a contrasting view, backing the commitment of the squad.

“I thought personally that the boys were running their socks off. Everyone in the changing room is tired. It’s nothing to do with effort. We gave it our all, we just got beat today,” Chalobah said.

The centre-back, making his first start in over a month, was part of a defence that struggled to contain Brighton’s attacking threat, with early and sustained pressure proving decisive.

    Rosenior questions mentality

Brighton took control early through Ferdi Kadioglu before further goals from Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck sealed a comfortable victory.

Despite the tactical shortcomings on display, Rosenior focused on the psychological side of the performance.

“Tonight was not about tactics, it was about desire,” the Chelsea boss said.
