Tottenham Hotspur claimed local bragging rights with a dramatic 2-1 pre-season victory over Chelsea in Sydney, as Richarlison struck a stoppage-time winner despite Spurs playing the entire second half with 10 men.

More than 80,000 fans at the Accor Stadium witnessed an intense encounter that saw Roberto De Zerbi’s side overcome Kevin Danso’s red card to hand Xabi Alonso his first defeat as Chelsea manager.

Spurs strike late despite red card setback

Tottenham made the brighter start and took the lead through Sandro Tonali, whose effort took a deflection before beating Chelsea goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe.

Chelsea responded before halftime when Brazilian youngster Estevao Willian headed home at the back post to restore parity.

The game changed shortly after the restart when defender Kevin Danso was sent off for bringing down Joao Pedro as the Chelsea forward raced through on goal. The dismissal left De Zerbi visibly frustrated, but Tottenham remained resilient.

Chelsea pushed for a second goal, with Estevao seeing a close-range effort brilliantly tipped onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. The Spurs shot-stopper also denied Joao Pedro from inside the six-yard box to keep his side in the contest.

    Richarlison seals victory

Despite being a man down, Tottenham continued to threaten on the counterattack. Young midfielder Rio Kyerematen came close to winning it when his long-range strike crashed against the crossbar.

The decisive moment arrived deep into stoppage time. Jamie Donley embarked on a driving run before his effort struck the post, allowing Richarlison to react quickest and tap home the rebound to seal a 2-1 victory.

The result gave Tottenham a morale-boosting win at the end of their Australian tour, while Chelsea were left with questions to answer after struggling to break down 10-man opponents.
