Mykhailo Mudryk could leave Chelsea on loan this summer as the winger looks to rebuild his career following a lengthy absence from competitive football.

The Ukraine international has not featured in a competitive match since November 2024 after testing positive for meldonium, a banned substance. His suspension was recently lifted, allowing him to resume his playing career.

Mudryk has already made a promising return during Chelsea’s pre-season campaign, registering an assist in Sunday’s draw against Johor Darul Ta’zim.

Alonso yet to decide Mudryk’s future

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has welcomed Mudryk’s return but stopped short of guaranteeing him a place in the team for the new season.

“It’s still too early to tell,” Alonso said last week when asked whether the winger could make a significant impact at Stamford Bridge.

The Spanish coach also acknowledged the difficulty of Mudryk’s absence, saying he and the squad were “happy for him” after his long period away from football.

Despite his encouraging start to pre-season, competition for attacking positions at Chelsea could make regular first-team football difficult for the 25-year-old.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are therefore prepared to consider loan offers for Mudryk to give him the opportunity to play consistently.

“Chelsea are open to considering loan proposals for Mykhaylo Mudryk to let him play regularly after return,” Romano reported.

    Premier League move preferred

Romano added that Italian clubs and Chelsea’s sister club RC Strasbourg are among the potential destinations, although Mudryk’s preference is reportedly to remain in England.

“Italian clubs as well as RC Strasbourg are options but understand Mudryk’s preference would be a loan to a Premier League club,” he said.

A temporary move could give Mudryk the regular playing time needed to regain his sharpness after almost two years away from competitive action.

The winger has worked extensively to maintain his fitness during his suspension. He hired a private coach and arranged training sessions involving goalkeepers and other players at Honeycroft Stadium, the home ground of non-league side Uxbridge FC.

Mudryk joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 in a deal worth up to £89 million but has struggled to establish himself at Stamford Bridge.
