Chelsea could part ways with head coach Liam Rosenior if they fail to qualify for the Champions League, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues are currently sixth in the Premier League, leaving their hopes of returning to Europe’s top competition hanging in the balance.

A run of three straight league defeats without scoring, alongside a heavy Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain, has intensified talks around the manager.

Champions League target key to decision

Romano suggested that while Chelsea continue to back Rosenior publicly, their long-term decision will be informed by results at the end of the campaign.

“Now obviously we’re in a results industry. It’s an industry always linked to results,” Romano said.

That stance effectively positions a top-five finish as the key performance indicator. Missing out on Champions League football could trigger a managerial change once the season ends.

Club still backing Rosenior – for now

Despite mounting pressure, Chelsea’s internal message remains supportive. The club are factoring in Rosenior’s mid-season arrival and the limited time he has had to implement his ideas.

“Chelsea maintain that they want to back and trust the manager. This is the message coming from the club,” Romano added.

“They don’t forget that the manager arrived in January. And so it’s not the same as having pre-season and preparing your own team.”

    Poor form increases pressure

Chelsea’s recent defeats to Everton, Newcastle United and Manchester City have exposed issues in attack, with the team failing to score in all three matches, their worst such run since 1998.

With crucial fixtures against Manchester United and Liverpool still to come, Chelsea’s margin for error is minimal.
