Chris Brown is having a ball on his ā€œR&Bā€ tour with fellow superstar Usher. But the fruits of his labor might go towards a lost legal battle he’s currently fighting to overturn. It concerns the singer’s former housekeeper Maria Avila and a $13 million judgement in her favor after his dog mauled her in 2020.

Avila wanted to collect his tour earnings and royalties in order to satisfy the judgement. But Brown recently filed a notice of intent to challenge this judgement and seek a new trial.

According to TMZ, he recently followed up on that intent. Per court documents, Breezy and his legal team filed opposition to the dog attack victim’s motion to direct all his present and future income towards her judgement until it’s paid in full. After the jury sided with her, she claimed he didn’t make any efforts to satisfy the judgement, which led to her pursuit of his earnings. The Virginia-born artist has a lot of shows with Usher left through December, which will result in a lot of cash.

But in his new filing, he claimed Avila’s moves are overwhelmingly broad, alleging the $13 million judgement is far from what the law limits as appropriate damages. Brown had denied claims of wrongdoing, accusing her of provoking the dog.

Elsewhere in this case, CB’s team also claimed other factors require a new trial. These include insufficient findings of innocence, jury misconduct, and irregularities in legal procedures that hindered his right to a fair trial. On September 22, the court will hold a hearing on this matter and later decides if the former housekeeper’s case has more legs.

Meanwhile, Chris Brown has other legal matters to address. He pleaded guilty to one count of affray stemming from a London nightclub incident, and in October, the court will hand down their sentence. Affray carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison.

But it seems like that case might not lead to significant punishment, at least in the grand scheme of things. Much like this housekeeper’s dog attack lawsuit, new developments continue to shift the legal outcome.
