The Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has recorded a commanding victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary, defeating former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, in a result that has reshaped the political balance within the party in Delta State.

The primary election, conducted across the eight local government areas of Delta Central, produced a decisive outcome as Dafinone secured an overwhelming 116,252 votes, while Omo-Agege trailed far behind with 3,643 votes.

The wide margin immediately positioned the result as one of the most striking internal party defeats in recent APC history in the state.

    Massive Margin Signals Grassroots Shift

The outcome, announced by the APC National Assembly Primary Committee, reflects a strong grassroots consolidation behind Dafinone, who currently represents the district in the Senate.

The result suggests that his influence within the constituency has significantly strengthened since taking office, particularly across local party structures and delegate networks.

The election results were formally collated by Hon. Dr. Okiemute E. Benjamin, the Collation Officer, and declared by Barr. Nusa Amagbor, Secretary of the APC National Assembly Primary Committee, with support from committee member Abimbola Samuel Dart.

Their announcement confirmed the completion of the exercise without reported irregularities affecting the final tally.

Political observers say the result may reshape strategic calculations within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially in Delta Central, where both candidates have historically maintained strong political followings.

The scale of Dafinone’s victory is already being interpreted as a signal of shifting loyalties within the party’s delegate base.
