Dr. Umar Johnson sends Kevin Hart a direct warning over the backlash surrounding Netflix’s Roast of Kevin Hart, saying Black audiences have enough global power to affect Kevin’s shows, support and bottom line. Speaking with Loon on It’s Up There, Dr. Umar begins by defending Sheryl Underwood against the attacks on her appearance and complexion. He describes Underwood as a beautiful dark-skinned Black woman whose talent and career deserved greater recognition. Umar says he remains disappointed that Sheryl participated in the roast and later defended the format, but he also expresses compassion for the professional position he believes she was placed in. According to Umar, the possibility of a Netflix special may have made Sheryl feel that she had to accept public humiliation to protect the next chapter of her career. The conversation then turns directly toward Kevin Hart. Umar rejects the idea that Kevin can separate himself from the backlash because he did not personally deliver the most controversial jokes. He argues that Kevin’s name, image and credibility were used to validate the production for Black audiences. Umar then issues one of his strongest warnings yet. He says no Black celebrity is above accountability and claims that if he called on Black audiences around the world to withdraw their support, Kevin Hart would feel the consequences in his ticket sales and bank account. Umar also explains what he believes should have happened inside the building. He says Kevin Hart needed to be “Will Smithed,” argues that Lamar Odom had reason to confront someone after becoming the subject of an unexpected substance-abuse joke and says somebody should have physically stopped the disrespect. But Umar’s larger argument goes beyond one joke or one comedian. He questions why Kevin Hart’s roast featured so many white comedians instead of legendary Black comics such as Dave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy, Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, Godfrey and Earthquake. Umar calls the event a “Jim Crow roast” and connects it to the history of minstrel entertainment in America. He argues that comedy has repeatedly been used to normalize racial stereotypes and test new social boundaries. According to Umar, Netflix’s roast was not merely entertainment—it was a social-psychology experiment designed to measure how much public disrespect Black people would tolerate when it was presented as comedy. Was Dr. Umar holding Kevin Hart accountable, or did he take his response too far? Watch the full exchange and decide who bears responsibility: Kevin Hart, Netflix, the comedians, the Black celebrities who remained in the room—or the audience that continued watching. 00:00 Dr. Umar Says He Would’ve “Will Smithed” the Roast 00:13 Dr. Umar Defends Sheryl Underwood’s Beauty 00:52 Colorism and Sheryl Underwood’s Career 01:29 The Netflix “Humiliation Ritual” 02:13 What the Roast Did to Dark-Skinned Black Girls 02:49 Why Dr. Umar Holds Kevin Hart Responsible 03:31 Did Kevin Hart Know the Roast Was Wrong? 04:14 “I Can Hurt Kevin Hart in the Pockets” 05:15 Dr. Umar Claims Global Black Influence 05:52 “The Biggest Black Non-Celebrity Voice” 06:22 What Dr. Umar Would’ve Done Inside the Roast 07:11 Lamar Odom and the Joke That Crossed the Line 07:54 “Somebody Should’ve Got Hands Put on Them” 08:30 Why Dr. Umar Wouldn’t Attend the Roast #DrUmarJohnson #KevinHart #SherylUnderwood Join Our Its Up There Podcast Clip Channel now https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEh6Wk40kcNcMJ4t_jtmluw Discord https://discord.gg/GJKXMWQS For all exclusive interviews & more content not here click here https://www.patreon.com/itsuptherepodcast 🚨Unreleased Interviews https://www.patreon.com/itsuptherepodcast 🦺All Merch Options teespring.com/its-up-there-podcast-merch 🎧LISTEN ON SPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/show/4Jheeb8FxYVDRo8khyrz36?si=e339dD2JRte2MYX2Uon3BQ 👀 SUBSCRIBE HERE:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCl_GorAVekpEVDlk1Yc8giw 👂 LISTEN ON APPLE PODCASTS: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/its-up-there-podcast/id1317524092?uo=4 👣FOLLOW ITS UP THERE PODCAST HOST : INSTAGRAM | fogfo_looney TIKTOK | https://www.tiktok.com/@fogfo_looney PATREON| https://www.patreon.com/itsuptherepodcast SUBSCRIBE TO Youtube Channel ➡️ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCl_GorAVekpEVDlk1Yc8giw WATCH MORE ➡️ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwNIuOcAtoo&list=PLnwwxLxHiDWayq4HPgNYUtsAGvqe3liOO
