    ‎Veteran Nollywood actor, Nkem Owoh has opened up about the traumatic experience of losing his brother, Bartholomew Owoh, during General Muhammadu Buhari’s military regime in 1985.

    ‎In an old interview with Arise News TV, Nkem Owoh opened up about his bond with his late brother, revealing they shared a deep connection.

    ‎Bartholomew was among the three young Nigerians executed by firing squad for drug-related offenses that weren’t punishable by death at the time.

    ‎Nkem Owoh Speaks On Brother’s Death

    ‎According to Nkem Owoh, during his brother’s execution, he was working at Anambra Television, and was overwhelmed with emotion, shedding tears.

    ‎The veteran actor revealed the most painful part was the retroactive application of the decree, changing the execution date to affect his brother.

    ‎Although, the drug-related offence wasn’t punishable by death during the period.

    ‎”Why would it be shifted back to include people who didn’t commit the offence before the decree?. It was a personal thing to me”, He added.

    Notably, Muhammadu Buhari was Nigeria’s military head of state from December 31, 1983, to August 27, 1985, after seizing power in a coup.

    Muhammadu Buhari’s Death

    It would be recalled that the former Nigerian President passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82, in a London clinic, after a prolonged illness.

    Muhammadu Buhari was buried on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State, following Islamic funeral rites.

    The burial took place at his private residence around 5:50 pm, after a military ceremony and funeral prayers led by prominent clerics.
