The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has publicly apologised for his previous teaching that Christians who do not pay tithe might not make it to heaven.

Speaking during a recent church programme, the respected cleric admitted that his earlier statement was incorrect, acknowledging that it was not supported by the Bible. His apology has since gone viral, attracting widespread reactions from Christians and social media users.

Pastor Adeboye said, “I apologize for saying ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong. That is not in the Bible.”

His remarks have sparked fresh conversations on the biblical teachings surrounding tithing and salvation.

    Pastor clarifies earlier teaching

The apology marks a significant shift from the pastor’s earlier position on the subject, which had generated debate among Christians over the years.

By admitting that the statement lacked biblical backing, Adeboye urged believers to rely on Scripture as the foundation of Christian doctrine rather than personal opinions or long-held assumptions.

    Reactions trail viral apology

The apology has drawn mixed reactions across social media platforms.

While many praised the cleric for publicly acknowledging his mistake and correcting his earlier teaching, others described the move as a demonstration of humility and accountability.

Some users also noted that the statement could reignite discussions among churches and theologians on the place of tithing in Christianity and whether it should be linked to salvation.

As the clip continues to circulate online, the apology has become one of the most talked-about religious moments, with many commending Pastor Adeboye’s willingness to publicly correct his previous stance.
