Right ‌after ‌steering ‌UCLA to its first NCAA women’s basketball championship, Lauren Betts and Kiki Rice shifted the party from the big arena lights to a simple spot behind the counter at Raising Cane’s in Hollywood.

They wrapped up a stunning 37-1 campaign, and there they were on Thursday at the 6800 Sunset Boulevard location, swapping jerseys for Cane’s shirts as they dished out orders to fans up front and through the drive-thru window. Fans crowded in to share the thrill with these two standouts in college hoops, right when the game itself grabs more eyes than ever, pulling players like them into a brighter glare.

UCLA made history on April 5 with a crushing 79-51 takedown of South Carolina, claiming the program’s first women’s title in the books. Betts grabbed the Final Four’s top player nod, and the Bruins did it in an amazing fashion without ever falling behind in the final showdown.

For Rice, that rush of clinching it all towers over the rest; even with the WNBA Draft looming fast, nudging both toward whatever comes after college.

“That moment was the best moment in my life,” Rice said. “That’s what we came here to do — to achieve that goal and finish out our college career. There hasn’t been a ton of time to relax with the draft coming up, just getting back into it.”

This pull between reveling and gearing up colored the whole scene in Hollywood: plenty of cheer and buzz with a sponsor’s shine, yet you could sense Betts and Rice had stepped beyond just campus heroes. Now they’re riding the surge into a pro scene that’s exploding, part of the fresh talent fueling it all.

Betts touched on that shift with real thanks, seeing it as bigger than her own path; “I’m grateful for all of the people who have put in work to create opportunities for people like me and Kiki,” she noted. “We’re making our dreams come true. It’s unbelievable. If my younger self could see me now, they’d be really proud.”

Such views echo the wider shift in women’s hoops by 2026, where crowds swell, attention sharpens, dollars pour in deeper. Events like this for Betts and Rice highlight how the fan base stretches way past gym floors now.

Rice nailed it when she talked up the surge in women’s athletics; “It’s been really great to see the growth after all these years,” she said. “People are here and engaged and interested in our stories. It’s really cool to have opportunities like this one at Raising Cane’s at a time when women’s sports is growing.”

You can’t unlink that boom from UCLA’s title charge: Betts, who snagged Big Ten’s best player and defender awards, held down the paint with her strength inside and sharp defense. Rice delivered calm, guidance, and smart passes from the backcourt; together they drove one of the fullest runs the school ever saw. No lucky streak in the tourney, this capped a year of proving their edge.

Still, when these two looked back on the squad’s legacy, they skipped the numbers and hardware, zeroing in on bonds, faith among teammates, that vibe in the huddle instead.

“I think just the joy that we had and the love that we had for each other,” Betts reflected. “I think it’s really amazing to see a team that can compete at such a high level and win a national championship but still have so much love and joy and just enjoy each other’s company. I think that’s going to be something that people remember for a long time.”

Rice painted a similar picture, one that sparked from the opener and held strong: “Once we started off our first game, you could just feel the energy and the vibe that we had within the team,” she said. “It’s like we would not be denied. We were going to prepare at a really high level. We were going to just compete and enjoy every single moment with each other. When you can feel that in the team, I feel like you just know you’re going to win.”

That sureness spilled into the title clash itself, where UCLA steamrolled South Carolina from tip-off, making the finale a showcase of the grit Rice felt pulsing through them.

“Honestly, when we walked in the gym, we were confident,” Rice added. “You could just feel the vibe, feel the energy that we had when we started warmups. You look around the team and in the locker room, you’re like, ‘okay, no one on this team is going to be okay with losing today’.”

The confetti dropped, the hardware’s claimed, and draft night’s closing in with both Betts and Rice projected to be lottery picks. They spent a brief moment in Hollywood before embarking on a new journey, carrying UCLA’s winning spark straight to the crowd; it drove home the distance women’s basketball has traveled.
