LOS ANGELES — From cult classic films to iconic television sitcoms, LisaRaye McCoy has built a career defined by longevity, versatility, and fan-favorite roles. Among her most celebrated television work is the hit series All of Us, where her comedic timing opposite Duane Martin created moments that continue to go viral on social media today—including the famous “Go Fish” scene.

Catching up on the red carpet for #WORDSWITHSCOOP, LisaRaye opened up about the enduring popularity of All of Us, the magic of 2000s television, and the unexpected role she still hopes to sink her teeth into next.

Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson: On the show that you did with Duane Martin, All of Us, the Go Fish scene—I feel like it came after the fact, and everybody saw it. Do you think because of social media, people relate to that?

LisaRaye McCoy: Uh-oh, I don’t know! [laughs] You’re telling me something that I didn’t know. I didn’t know it was like playing. I should be getting residual checks in the mail! Well, here’s the thing that was so good about TV back then—it was just so honest, and just so raw. And so, I know that that was the Lucille Ball time of my career, of just being funny and laughing, and we can all relate to that. So if they’re watching All of Us now, they need to be watching the whole season!

Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson: Your career has had many lives, in my opinion. You’ve had longevity in that sense. What is one role that you would still like to play, or that you haven’t played yet?

LisaRaye McCoy: You know, every role that I get, I appreciate. Every role takes a depth for you to dive into. However, I don’t really think that I’ve gotten that role that I really want to sink my teeth into and makes me nervous. I did a sci-fi film called Luna Lockdown, and I played a warden. I had a lot of dialogue, so to try to find the rollercoaster in that was a lot. And then Db’s Boss, which I have out now, is a different character as well. That’s a period piece, and I play a mom—an older mom—and the scene itself made me have to go deep. So that was different. But… I don’t really know! I’d like—I’d like to be a vampire! [laughs] I’d like to be a vampire. But that’s not all. You know, I think I’m just going to accept what God is going to have for me and go through it. So you just gotta stay tuned!

    The Takeaway

Whether reflecting on the timeless sitcom charm of All of Us or pushing herself into dark sci-fi and period dramas, LisaRaye McCoy continues to evolve as an actress. And if Hollywood is listening, getting her into a vampire thriller might just be the next defining chapter in her storied career.
