A Nigerian man has cried out online after individuals allegedly asked him to obtain a permit before using solar power at his residence in Lagos State.

The incident, which he shared on social media, has left many Nigerians questioning whether such a requirement exists or if it could be a case of impersonation or attempted extortion.

    Strange Demand Over Solar Installation

According to the man, a group of individuals showed up in front of his house claiming that because he had installed a solar system, he needed to get approval and a permit before he could use it.

He said the demand came as a shock, as he had never heard of any such regulation requiring residents to seek permission before using solar power in their homes.

    Identity of Officials Unclear

While the individuals reportedly claimed to be from a government body, it remains unclear whether they are genuinely affiliated with the Lagos State Ministry of Housing Monitoring and Compliance or any recognized authority.

In his words: “Please, Lagos people—does anyone know these people? They just showed up at front of our house saying because we installed solar that we must get permit and approval from them before we can use it. I’ve never heard of this in my life, and I don’t even know where they came from…”
