    Passenger electric trikes are no longer just oversized e-bikes with an extra seat. Models such as the Maxfoot MF-33 and Addmotor Greattan L are designed specifically for riders who want to bring a spouse, family member, friend, or older passenger along for the journey.

    Both are substantial machines. Both use powerful rear-drive motors, both can carry around 500 pounds in total, and both provide dedicated passenger seating rather than simply placing a cushion on a cargo rack.

    However, they approach the market differently. Addmotor has been building electric bikes since 2011 and entered the electric-trike segment years before many newer competitors. Maxfoot is a younger brand, but the MF-33 makes a strong case by combining a long list of premium features with a lower selling price.

    So, which one makes more sense in 2026?

    Power: Surprisingly Close

    There is very little separating these two trikes in basic motor performance.

    The MF-33 uses a 750W rear-drive brushless geared motor producing 85 Nm of torque. A rear-drive configuration makes particular sense for a passenger trike because much of the weight is concentrated toward the rear. Maxfoot also equips the MF-33 with a rear differential, allowing the two rear wheels to rotate at different speeds when cornering.

    The Greattan L answers with a 750W rear-mounted motor producing 90 Nm of torque and up to 1,400W peak output. Addmotor therefore has a slight advantage on paper in maximum torque. The company limits the listed top speed to 20 mph, which is reasonable for a large trike carrying another person.

    Neither machine is really about outright speed. Their motors are designed to move significant weight smoothly from a stop, deal with moderate inclines, and provide useful assistance when carrying passengers.

    In this category, that matters far more than chasing a higher top-speed number.

    Battery and Range: Greattan L Takes the Lead

    Range is probably the Greattan L’s biggest technical advantage.

    Each Greattan L battery uses a 48V 20Ah Samsung-cell pack, and buyers can choose a dual-battery configuration. Addmotor claims approximately 65 miles per battery under favorable pedal-assist conditions, bringing the dual-battery version to as much as 130 miles.

    That is a substantial amount of range for a passenger electric trike.

    The MF-33 also uses a Samsung 48V 20Ah battery, with Maxfoot claiming 85+ miles at PAS 1. Its battery is UL-certified, and Maxfoot lists a charging time of approximately nine to ten hours.

    For normal neighborhood rides, shopping trips, park visits, or recreational use, 85 miles is already more than many riders will need between charges.

    But if maximum theoretical range is the priority, the Greattan L clearly has the advantage. Two batteries simply provide considerably more total stored energy.

    MF-33 Puts More Emphasis on Materials

    Where the MF-33 becomes particularly interesting is underneath the obvious specification sheet.

    Maxfoot uses 6061 aluminum alloy for the front portion of the frame and 7A19 aluminum alloy for the rear structure.

    That rear-frame decision is notable because the back of the MF-33 has to support not only the rear wheels and drivetrain but also the passenger seating area. The manufacturer has therefore chosen a different alloy specifically for this heavily loaded section rather than using one frame material throughout.

    The MF-33 also includes a 50mm suspension fork, Shimano 7-speed drivetrain, three 180mm disc-brake rotors, 24 x 4-inch front tire, 20 x 4-inch rear tires, power-cutoff brake levers, integrated headlight, brake light, and turn signals.

    This is one reason the MF-33’s $3,299 price becomes important. It is not positioned as a stripped-down alternative.

    There is a lot of hardware included.

    Greattan L Feels Like the More Established Platform

    That does not mean the Greattan L lacks substance.

    Its 26 x 4-inch front tire and 20 x 4-inch rear tires create a large, substantial footprint, while its front suspension helps reduce the impact of rough pavement. It also provides dedicated rear-passenger accommodation rather than treating passenger carrying as an afterthought.

    The Greattan L supports a listed 350-pound rider capacity plus approximately 150 pounds for the passenger, giving it roughly 500 pounds of combined load capacity.

    Its biggest advantage, however, may be less visible on a specification chart.

    Addmotor says the company was established in California in 2011, introduced a semi-recumbent electric trike in 2017, and began selling additional electric-tricycle models in 2018. The company has therefore spent years developing different trike formats, including passenger, cargo, folding, semi-recumbent, and other specialized designs.

    Maxfoot, by comparison, says it was founded in 2019.

    For buyers who place a lot of value on brand history and years of experience specifically with electric trikes, Addmotor has the stronger story.

    Passenger Comfort Matters More Than Numbers

    Both companies deserve credit for recognizing that carrying a passenger requires more than motor power.

    The MF-33 provides a wide rear passenger seat with a padded backrest, armrests, footrests, passenger access step, and safety belts. Maxfoot says the rear seating area can accommodate additional passengers within the trike’s overall weight limits.

    The Greattan L similarly uses a dedicated rear passenger seat with a seatbelt and a passenger load rating of approximately 150 pounds.

    This makes both trikes suitable for the kind of riding they were actually designed for: taking a partner along on a recreational ride, transporting an older family member around the neighborhood, or simply making an e-trike something that can be enjoyed together.

    Price Changes the Comparison

    This is where the MF-33 starts to pull ahead from a value perspective.

    At the time of comparison, Maxfoot lists the MF-33 at $3,299, discounted from $3,599.

    Addmotor lists the Greattan L at $3,899 on its U.S. site.

    That creates a $600 gap.

    The Greattan L can justify its higher positioning with a longer brand history, slightly more motor torque, and especially its dual-battery option with up to 130 miles of claimed range.

    But the MF-33 makes the buyer ask an equally important question:

    How much am I actually getting for my money?

    For $3,299, the MF-33 still provides a 750W rear motor, 85 Nm of torque, Samsung 20Ah battery, rear differential, 7A19 rear-frame construction, three disc brakes, fat tires, suspension, passenger seating, safety belts, turn signals, and a 500-pound payload rating.

    That is a very competitive package.

    Final Verdict: Established Brand or Better Value?

    There is no need to declare either of these trikes a bad choice.

    The Addmotor Greattan L arguably makes more sense for buyers who prioritize brand experience and maximum range. Addmotor has been operating since 2011 and has a much longer track record in the electric-trike market. The Greattan L’s 90 Nm motor and optional dual-battery system with up to 130 miles of claimed range also give it genuine advantages.

    The Maxfoot MF-33, however, is difficult to ignore if value is the priority.

    It costs around $600 less, yet still delivers many of the features expected on a premium passenger trike. Its Samsung battery, rear differential, 7A19 rear-frame section, 750W motor, three-disc-brake layout, fat tires, suspension, and extensive passenger equipment make the $3,299 price particularly aggressive.

    So the final decision comes down to what the buyer values most.

    Addmotor is the more established electric-trike brand, and the Greattan L is the stronger choice for buyers who want maximum range and a longer company track record.

    But for shoppers asking which passenger electric trike delivers more equipment and capability for the money, the Maxfoot MF-33 offers the stronger overall value proposition.
