MotorCity Casino Hotel is updating its hotel experience, starting with the first phase of newly renovated guestrooms. This is part of a larger $65 million investment in the property.

The first two renovated floors are now open for booking, marking an early step in MotorCity’s multi-year ELEVATE THE ESCAPE project. More guestrooms and suites will open in phases through the end of 2027 as the hotel continues to change.

Detroiters who want to revisit a familiar spot, or visitors looking for a special stay downtown, will find the renovation brings a more modern feel to the MotorCity hotel experience.

Guests can now book the renovated Executive King and Executive Two Queen guestrooms, as well as the Suite. Instead of just updating the look, MotorCity has redesigned the rooms into what they call functional “mini suites,” with separate areas for working, relaxing, and recharging.

The redesign keeps the rooms spacious and adds features to make them more useful for today’s travelers. Guests can still enjoy natural light and views of the Detroit skyline, along with built-in seating, flexible work areas, new technology, and updated lighting.

“These guestrooms bring a new level of comfort, design, and functionality to the hotel experience at MotorCity,” said Fred Isaacs, vice president of hotel operations at MotorCity Casino Hotel. “As part of ELEVATE THE ESCAPE, they give our guests a polished, comfortable retreat while keeping them connected to everything MotorCity and Detroit have to offer.”

MotorCity worked with Gensler Detroit on the redesign, taking ideas from modern homes instead of traditional hotel styles. The guestrooms feature rich wood, natural textures, layered lighting, and warm finishes, giving them a more refined, home-like feel that stands out from the lively atmosphere in the rest of the casino and entertainment complex.

“The guestrooms were designed as a true retreat that balances the energy of the casino,” said Lily Diego, creative director at Gensler Detroit. “By transforming the existing layouts into mini suites, we created a greater sense of space while incorporating intuitive features designed around the needs of today’s traveler.”

The new rooms are just one part of bigger changes happening at MotorCity. The $65 million ELEVATE THE ESCAPE project aims to improve the guest experience throughout the property, with more updates coming soon for dining, the casino, and MotorCity’s loyalty program.

The renovation comes at a time when more Metro Detroit residents are choosing staycations, swapping airport trips and long travel for a night of dining, entertainment, relaxation, and luxury close to home.

This makes MotorCity’s changing hotel experience especially interesting as the property moves into its next chapter.

The Michigan Chronicle will get a firsthand look at the newly renovated rooms this fall as part of our Chic-cation Staycation series. Stay tuned as we plan an elevated girls’ getaway at MotorCity, from overnight stays to dining, cocktails, and some spa time, and share what the new experience is really like.
