President Bola Tinubu called Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke at about 2:00am on Sunday to congratulate him on his victory in the state’s 2026 governorship election.

The call came before the final results were formally announced, with Tinubu telling Adeleke that the people of Osun State had spoken through their votes.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, was later declared winner after securing 511,067 votes.

    What Tinubu told Adeleke

During the reported phone conversation, Tinubu told Adeleke that the mandate given to him by Osun voters should be respected.

The President said, “The people of Osun have spoken. They have given you their mandate to govern them for another four years. Their will must prevail. I congratulate you and wish you well.”

Adeleke defeated his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes. African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam came third with 17,180 votes.

    Tinubu congratulates other contestants

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said Adeleke’s victory confirmed the confidence Osun residents had in him.

The President said, “I wish him great success as he prepares to lead the state for the next four years.”

Tinubu also urged Adeleke to reach across political divides and unite the state behind a common development agenda.

He further praised the other candidates for their conduct, saying their participation strengthened Nigeria’s democratic culture.

The Osun election result has since become a major talking point, particularly Tinubu’s reported early call to Adeleke before the final declaration.
