A supporter of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has sparked fresh political debate after claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will hand over power to him in 2027.

The statement, made in a short viral video circulating on social media, has drawn mixed reactions from Nigerians, with many questioning the basis of the claim.

    Bold Claim Sparks Political Debate

In the widely shared clip, the loyalist expressed confidence that El-Rufai would emerge as Nigeria’s next president under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), one of the country’s opposition parties.

Speaking briefly to journalists, the supporter declared:

“Next year, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will handover to His Excellency, Malam Nasir El-Rufai by May 2027, and the journey has started. Thank you so much.”

Although the video lasted only a few seconds, it has since triggered widespread discussion across social media platforms.

    Questions Over Opposition Unity

Political observers note that the claim comes at a time when opposition parties in Nigeria continue to struggle with internal divisions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

El-Rufai, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, has remained active in national conversations since leaving office as Kaduna State governor. However, there has been no official confirmation from him regarding any presidential ambition under the ADC.

    Public Reactions Trail Viral Video

The video has generated a wave of reactions online, with Nigerians expressing divergent views about the possibility of such a political transition.

Klopperfield wrote: “The most foolish set of opposition we’ve had, you people want the ruling party out but you can’t unite, all of you want to contest, I don’t know why Nigerians are bothering about next election when there’s no opposition.”

Ikpeama Ekene commented: “Na now Nigerians go understand say that thing wey Peter Obi join na mistake.”

Idowu added: “That is not enough reason to overlook the fact that power needs to remain in the South for the next 4 years.”

Alayandaoba reacted: “If he like, he can even contest for America president… That’s none of my business.”
