Target is facing major backlash after selling a children’s “Blacklight Circus Clown” Halloween costume that critics said resembled racist blackface and Jim Crow-era minstrel imagery. The retailer has since pulled the costume, apologized, and admitted it “got this wrong,” but the controversy is raising a bigger question: how did it make it through the approval process in the first place? On this episode of Point of View, we also discuss Usain Bolt proposing to longtime partner Kasi Bennett after more than a decade together, Master P’s controversial comments about mindset and Black economic progress, and the fact that corporal punishment is still permitted in some American schools. Watch until the end and tell us what you think: Does Target’s apology go far enough, or does this controversy point to a much bigger problem?
