The untitled days are over. The Snowfall spinoff now has a name: The Drop: A Snowfall Saga. It premieres later this year on FX and Hulu, with international viewers catching it on Disney+.

Gail Bean and Isaiah John return as Wanda and Leon, the roles they built across the original series. They are not stepping into reboot territory or playing watered-down versions of familiar faces. The story picks up shortly after Snowfall closed, and it comes from Malcolm Spellman and the producers who ran the original.

The setting is 1990s Los Angeles. Wanda and Leon are pushing to take West Coast rap mainstream while gang wars rip through the streets and record labels circle, looking to cash in on hip hop culture without respecting it. That tension, art versus exploitation, is the engine of the show.

The road here was not quick. The spinoff entered development in 2023 as Snowfall wrapped its six-season run on FX. It earned a series pickup in November 2025. Now it has a title and a release window.

For anyone who watched the finale, the spinoff carries the weight of where things ended. Damson Idris’s Franklin Saint spiraled into alcoholism after Teddy McDonald, played by Carter Hudson, was killed by Franklin’s mother. Franklin lost his $73 million fortune, his wife, and their unborn child. The final scenes left him homeless, wandering the streets. The Drop moves forward from that wreckage with the characters who survived it.

The cast runs deep. Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie “Buddy” Sims III also star. The ensemble includes Mykelti Williamson, Nicki Micheaux, Brandon Mychal Smith, Isidora Goreshter, Eric Balfour, Richard Portnow, Zaire Adams, Demetrius Grosse, and Snowfall alum Quincy Chad. Spellman executive produces alongside Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, Trevor Engelson, and Paul Garnes. FX Productions produces.

The Snowfall universe is not done. It is just changing zip codes within the same city, trading the crack epidemic for the record industry, and betting that the audience still wants in.
