Quiet luxury had a good run.

But Black women are bringing drama back.

Across fashion circles, there’s a growing rejection of ultra-minimal beige aesthetics in favour of what social media has lovingly named “Big Auntie Energy”. Think oversized sunglasses, colourful prints, matching sets, gold jewellery, silk blouses and enough confidence to silence a room before you even speak.

In short, dressing like the glamorous auntie who always arrived late to the function smelling expensive.

The trend feels bigger than fashion. For many women, it’s about reclaiming joy after years of muted aesthetics that often excluded Black expression and culture. Minimalism can be chic, but sometimes it also feels like your wardrobe is preparing for a court appearance.

Black women are once again embracing personality dressing. Loud bags. Rich colours. Structured tailoring. Hair laid. Nails dangerous.

Fashion experts say younger women are also looking back at 90s and early 2000s Black style icons for inspiration. The result is a return to fashion that actually looks alive.

Frankly, if your outfit doesn’t look like it has opinions, what are we even doing?
