HBCUs have long turned limited resources into strong outcomes. They educate leaders, advance innovation and strengthen communities across the country. HBCUs generate an estimated $16.5 billion in annual economic impact and support more than 136,000 jobs nationwide.

Today, many campuses are adapting to a rapidly changing workforce with facilities that have not kept pace. This gap in infrastructure affects how students learn and prepare for future careers.

Students often highlight the huge impact attending an HBCU has had on their educational journeys, career paths and lives:

“If there’s anything I can praise my university for, it’s most definitely the experience. To be able to meet people, build connections and network with so many groups, ethnicities and backgrounds.”

These experiences reflect what HBCUs continue to make possible for students across the country.

The IGNITE HBCU Excellence Act would help close this gap by supporting campus repairs, improving infrastructure and expanding broadband access at HBCUs.
