A 32-year-old Nigerian nurse has sparked widespread reactions online after sharing her emotional struggle over family pressure to surrender her assets to an estranged husband who allegedly betrayed her trust.

The woman, who lost her first husband shortly after childbirth, revealed that she remarried two years later, only to face financial exploitation and emotional distress.

Her story surfaced on social media on Monday, drawing sympathy and debate about marriage, family loyalty, and women’s financial independence.

    Financial strain and betrayal

According to her, just four months into the second marriage, her husband claimed his business had collapsed, prompting her to shoulder most household expenses and support him financially.

“I’m 32 and tired. I gave him ₦2 million to help his business, and instead of things improving, he kept asking for more. When I questioned him, he got angry and left,” she said.

She later discovered that her husband had secretly married another woman and allegedly built a house for her, with the woman now expecting his child.

    Family pressure mounts

Despite the separation, the woman said her family has sided with her husband, urging her to transfer her shop and car to his name in a bid to salvage the marriage.

The painful part is my own mother and siblings are supporting him. They say I should give him everything to save my marriage, even though he has made it clear he won’t leave the other woman,” she added.

Cases of marital disputes involving financial control have surfaced in recent years, highlighting concerns over economic abuse and societal expectations placed on women in troubled unions.
