Thousands of Northwest Indiana residents have gone more than a week without electricity after a devastating derecho triggered the largest outage in NIPSCO’s history. At the peak, more than 300,000 customers lost power, leaving families dealing with extreme heat, spoiled food, damaged property, and major disruptions to everyday life. As restoration efforts continue, many residents are asking why a disaster this large hasn’t received more national attention. On this episode of Point of View, we also discuss Mary J. Blige reflecting on motherhood, Dr. Umar’s advice to Black mothers raising sons, and the growing number of food recalls and active outbreak investigations involving Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli, and Cyclospora. Watch until the end and join the conversation. How long is too long for an entire community to be without power?
