SummaryToledano & Chan unveils the b/1.3R with an 18k gold ripple dialTechnical upgrades include a 32mm titanium case and Swiss Made designationScheduled for a February 12, 2026, releaseIndependent watch brand Toledano & Chan continues to refine its distinctive architectural aesthetic with its fourth major release, the b/1.3R. Moving away from the industry's recent reliance on traditional materials, the brand has introduced a custom "ripple dial" crafted from 18k solid gold, designed to mimic the organic movement of water. This choice reflects a commitment to original design over standard catalog options, as the brand seeks to move beyond the commoditization of high-end watchmaking features. As founders Phil Toledano and Alfred Chan explain, "The point of Toledano & Chan is to delight and surprise - we had originally planned a watch with a stone dial, but given the tsunami of stone dials over the last year, we decided to invent a new dial - riskier, but creatively much more satisfying."The b/1.3R represents a significant technical step forward for the brand, transitioning to a full grade 5 titanium case and bracelet for improved wearability. The timepiece has also been redesigned with a more versatile 32mm case, down from the previous 33.5mm and now carries a "Swiss Made" designation. Regarding these upgrades, the founders noted that "Every new Toledano & Chan watch is an opportunity to improve our watch, to keep honing it — this one is no exception—it’s now titanium, a slightly smaller size, and Swiss made." Inside, the timepiece is powered by the Sellita SW100 Swiss automatic movement, ensuring a level of mechanical reliability that matches its sculptural exterior.Visually, the watch remains anchored in its brutalist inspirations, specifically the window of Marcel Breuer’s Whitney Museum building in New York. It retains the brand's signature asymmetrical sapphire crystal and striking, geometric case lines that blend 1970s watch design with modern architectural purity. The creators view this evolution as a maturing of their design philosophy, adding that"With the b/1, we created a new visual language, and now the trick is to create new words and phrases in that language."The b/1.3R is priced at $10,200 USD and is schedue to February 12, 2026, 9 a.m. EST.
