A Federal lawmaker, Hon. Ifeanyi Uzokwe, has raised fresh allegations over internal tensions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, accusing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of dominating the group and undermining internal consensus.

Uzokwe made the remarks while reacting to ongoing political discussions around the coalition’s structure and leadership, insisting that key decisions were being influenced by personal control rather than collective agreement.

“Coalition was formed in his house” — Uzokwe

According to him, dissatisfaction within the group led to their exit from ADC, following claims that Atiku Abubakar treated the coalition as a personal project.

Let him tell Nigerians. Jeffrey you are telling us mass movement. We left ADC because His Excellency Atiku Abubakar said that coalition was formed in his house, that ADC is his party, that nobody will tell him anything.”

He further questioned the internal process of selecting candidates, insisting that opposition figures should be allowed to compete freely through primaries.

We went to him and said, can you step down and leave Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi and others to go into primaries?

Let Atiku say he is stepping down today, that Rotimi Amaechi, that he has conceded to the south, that Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Obi should go to the field and do primaries, or any other person from the south, if Peter Obi does not come back tomorrow to go and face anybody.”

“Stop telling lies to Nigerians” — Lawmaker insists

Uzokwe dismissed claims of a united “mass movement,” accusing some political actors of misleading Nigerians about the nature of the coalition.

What are you telling me? Somebody that stood for election in 2023 and you are telling me about primaries. My brother, stop telling lies to Nigerians.”

He also alleged that coalition negotiations involved visits to various political leaders’ residences, but no agreement was reached on power-sharing, particularly in favour of southern aspirants.

Tell us how you people came into coalition. And we said no. Former legislators and current legislators, we sat down, we went to all their houses.”

Uzokwe further referenced internal zoning discussions, claiming that some groups had already made concessions to the South, while others continued to assert dominance.

And we are not getting that the south way. Kwankwasia movement, they conceded to the south. What you hear them saying tomorrow is that Kwankwaso is just a politician that he has no other places to conquer.”
