Goldberg is one of only 28 entertainers to have achieved the EGOT. She has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award. Also, she is best known for her roles in landmark films, including The Color Purple 1985, Ghost, and Sister Act. But her relationship with books goes back decades as well. Her published works include the Sugar Plum Ballerinas children’s book series. There are nonfiction titles, including Is It Just Me? Or Is It Nuts Out There? and If Someone Says ‘You Complete Me,’ RUN! as well.

Most recently, she released Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me. It is a bestselling memoir that is now out in paperback. With more than a dozen books under her belt, Goldberg has a deep personal understanding of what it means to be an author. Now, she wants to use that experience to champion others.

    Hands-On from Day One

This will be no ceremonial celebrity endorsement. According to Blackstone, Goldberg is expected to play a hands-on role in the process. From shaping book concepts to contributing to cover design and promotion. The publisher has made clear that her involvement will be genuine and sustained. Not simply lending her name to a logo on a spine.

“I’m looking forward to working with Blackstone, who have been a powerhouse in the audio space and have been flourishing in print over the past years,” Goldberg said. “WhoopInk will cater to audiobook lovers, like me, and get important stories into more hands and ears across the globe.”

A Familiar Face Among the First Authors

Among WhoopInk’s early titles is the next novel in the mystery series by Blackstone executive Rick Bleiweiss. The man who originally signed Goldberg’s bestselling memoir “Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me” to the publisher.

The upcoming title, “The Cupid Killer and Other Murderers,” will be published under WhoopInk. Also, the two previous books in the Pignon Scorbion & the Barbershop Detectives series will also move to the new imprint.

“I’m looking forward to working with Blackstone, who have been a powerhouse in the audio space and have been flourishing in print over the past years.”

Goldberg also plans to release several of her own books through WhoopInk, including a collaboration with longtime business partner Tom Leonardis and a follow-up to “Bits and Pieces,” which is out in paperback this week.

In a statement, Goldberg expressed enthusiasm for what lies ahead, saying, “I’m personally looking forward to finding new authors, working with established authors, and bringing influential voices into a curated imprint.” WhoopInk will cater to audiobook lovers and aims to get important stories into more hands and ears across the globe.
