A final-year student of Imo State University (IMSU) has expressed disappointment after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) reportedly announced an indefinite strike while students were preparing to write their examinations.

The student, who was preparing for the first paper of the final-year examination, said the announcement left her devastated and uncertain about what would happen to her academic programme.

According to her, she had already arrived at the university and was in the examination hall when ASUU members came in and announced the commencement of the industrial action.

    Student laments unexpected disruption

In a video shared online, the final-year student described the development as one of her saddest days at the university.

She said the strike announcement came at a particularly difficult time because she and other final-year students had gone to the school to begin their examinations.

This is one of my saddest days in university. As final-year students, I just got to the school to write my exam, my first paper for my final year exam and ASUU just came into the hall and announced an indefinite strike.

“I don’t even know what to feel like at this point. I’m sad…”

The student expressed frustration over the sudden disruption, particularly because final-year students are often eager to complete their examinations and conclude their university programmes.

    ASUU begins indefinite strike

The reported industrial action follows ASUU’s decision to commence an indefinite strike over the alleged non-implementation of the 2025 agreement reached between the union and the Federal Government.

The dispute centres on the implementation of agreements reached between both parties, with the union pushing for the government to fulfil its commitments.

The development could affect academic activities across public universities, including lectures, examinations and other scheduled academic programmes.

For final-year students who were already preparing to complete their studies, the strike could create further uncertainty over examination dates and graduation timelines.
