The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chapter in Sokoto State has chosen former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Muktar Magori, a party chieftain, announced on behalf of other stakeholders at a press conference in Sokoto on Sunday.

Mr Magori, a former chief of staff to ex-Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, stated that ADC supporters and other stakeholders in Sokoto State had struck an agreement.

“This decision is in preparation for the party’s forthcoming presidential primaries and the 2027 general elections,” he stated.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), numerous ADC chieftains in the state attended the press briefing, including former Commissioner for Information Dahiru Maishanu, former Head of Service Abubakar Muhammad, and the party’s state chairman Abdullahi Maigwandu, among others.

The former vice president is one of three presidential candidates in the David Mark-led ADC. Other candidates are Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation, and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
