Chelsea have agreed a club-record £117 million deal with Aston Villa to sign England midfielder Morgan Rogers, making the 23-year-old the most expensive player in the club’s history.

The Blues have reached an agreement with Villa for the transfer, with Rogers expected to sign a six-year contract that includes the option of a further 12 months after completing his medical.

    Chelsea break transfer record

Rogers is scheduled to undergo a medical on Monday after returning from England duty at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The transfer surpasses the £107 million Chelsea paid to sign Enzo Fernandez in 2023, setting a new club-record fee.

It also becomes the highest transfer fee ever paid for an English player, edging past the reported £116 million Manchester City agreed to pay Nottingham Forest for midfielder Elliot Anderson earlier this summer.

The move is one of the first major signings under new Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso as the club continues to reshape its squad ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Rogers departs Villa after impressive spell

Rogers joined Aston Villa from Championship side Middlesbrough in February 2024 and quickly established himself as a key player under Unai Emery.

During his time at Villa Park, he scored 21 league goals in 85 appearances and helped the club win the UEFA Europa League last season.

The attacking midfielder began his career at Manchester City before leaving in search of regular first-team football.

Rogers has also become a regular for England, earning 21 senior caps and scoring once. He featured in six matches during the 2026 World Cup, where the Three Lions reached the semi-finals before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Argentina.
