Legendary Nigerian singer 2Baba has publicly celebrated fellow music icon Daddy Showkey, recalling a memorable gesture the veteran musician made for him early in his career.

While performing at a recent event, 2Baba paused to commend Daddy Showkey, revealing that he was the first person who ever gave him $100.

“Daddy Showkey was the first person to give me $100, and that was my first time seeing a dollar note. It was this great man that gave it to me,” he said.

The singer also reflected on his own journey, admitting that he used to frequently go out looking for trouble but has now turned over a new leaf after getting more than he bargained for.

2Baba’s tribute comes amid a period of reflection in his career. Last year, the singer celebrated 25 years in the Nigerian music industry and used the milestone to appreciate his wife, Natasha, former bandmates Blackface and Faze, manager Efe Omorogbe, colleagues, family and friends.

He also unveiled a new management team last year, describing the move as part of his efforts to reinvent and amplify his brand while preserving his legacy.

Recall that in 2024, 2Baba parted ways with Efe Omorogbe, who had managed him for about 20 years.

The singer has also used several public appearances to reflect on his life and career. During his 50th birthday celebration in September, he acknowledged that many who started the journey with him were no longer around.

At a concert in December, 2Baba also apologised to Nigerians, appealing to the public to forgive him and his family.
