    Dr. Leatrice M. Mowatt, was the daughter of Lloyd and Elizabeth McClain, who spent her entire life in the city of Chicago. A product of Ida B. Wells Homes and Lucy Flower High School. The oldest of three sisters, the youngest, the acclaimed journalist and editor of the Chicago Tribune — Leanita McClain, who passed away in 1984 and a fellow Chicago Public School teacher at Parkside Academy — Anita McClain Dabney. Leatrice was a CPS teacher nearly 40 years on the West Side as a part of the inaugural cadre of teachers who opened Frederick Douglass Middle School. Her husband, Andrew D. Mowatt, for just over 50 years of marriage transitioned on March 3, 2010, and she is survived by a sister, the aforementioned Anita; two sons, Thomas Lloyd Mowatt and Rasul (Norman) Aaron Mowatt; and a score of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, and cousins, residing as close as the South Side and as far as away as Kingston, Jamaica. – Aṣẹ
