Manchester City came from behind to beat Bournemouth 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, with Josko Gvardiol scoring a dramatic stoppage-time winner to give Enzo Maresca victory in his first Premier League match in charge.

    Tavernier puts Bournemouth ahead

Marcus Tavernier gave the visitors the breakthrough and appeared to have put Bournemouth on course for a famous victory.

City struggled to find a response until Marc Guehi restored parity with a late header. The England defender, deployed in front of the back four, saw his effort take a deflection before finding the net.

Guehi had earlier missed a golden opportunity when he headed wide from a promising position.

    Gvardiol completes dramatic turnaround

With the game heading into stoppage time, City pushed forward in search of a winner and Gvardiol found himself in an unfamiliar attacking position.

The Croatia international kept his cool to turn the ball into the bottom corner and seemingly complete the comeback.

The goal was initially ruled out after the assistant referee raised the offside flag, but VAR intervened and confirmed Gvardiol had remained just onside.

The decision sparked celebrations at the Etihad and ensured Maresca began his Premier League reign with all three points after City had been pushed to the limit by an impressive Bournemouth side.
