Florida A&M men’s basketball has secured a historic recruit commitment.

Camden Cooper, a nationally recognized high school standout from the Jacksonville area, is now the highest-rated recruit in program history.

Cooper, a 4-star shooting guard, announced his decision on social media to join head coach Charlie Ward’s program over offers from several Power Four schools, including Florida State and Texas A&M.

His commitment immediately elevates the Rattlers’ recruiting profile and signals a significant step forward for the program under Ward.

What to know about Camden Cooper

In a move that underscores both his readiness and ambition, Cooper recently reclassified from the Class of 2028 to 2027, allowing him to graduate a full year early and begin his collegiate career ahead of schedule.

Cooper was previously ranked No. 84 overall nationally by Rivals.com before reclassifying. He projects as a versatile combo guard with the size and scoring ability to impact the game at multiple levels. Known for his length and confidence as a shot maker, Cooper has built a reputation as an aggressive offensive creator capable of scoring over defenders and generating his own opportunities.

During his high school career, Cooper has averaged 17.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.9 steals per game, showcasing a well-rounded skill set that extends beyond scoring.

His rise has been rapid and unconventional. At St. Johns Country Day School, Cooper began playing varsity basketball as early as the sixth grade. By the time he reached seventh grade, he had already surpassed the 1,000-point mark, an early indicator of the scoring prowess that has since made him one of the most sought-after prospects in the country.

With Cooper’s commitment, Florida A&M adds a dynamic perimeter threat and a cornerstone piece to its future, marking a potential turning point for the Rattlers’ program on the national recruiting stage.
