The San Francisco 49ers family is mourning the loss of another former NFL player, Jordan Devey, who died earlier this week at the age of 38.

Devey’s wife, Linsey, disclosed the former 49ers offensive lineman’s death on Thursday night, and a GoFundMe site set up for the family, with a goal of $200,000, revealed that he committed suicide.

“Tragically, Jordan took his own life, leaving his family to navigate an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time,” the message added. “As they face huge emotional and financial hurdles, including rising medical costs, the community is banding together to support Linsey and their children. The donations received will help alleviate the financial load, allowing them to concentrate on recovering and progressing without the added stress of urgent obligations.”

Devey played for Snow College from 2009 to 2011 and Memphis from 2011 to 2013, garnering All-C-USA honors once. After going undrafted in 2013, he briefly played for the Baltimore Ravens before playing two seasons with the New England Patriots, where he won a Super Bowl.

San Francisco acquired Devey in 2015, trading tight end Asante Cleveland back to New England. He played in 15 games and started nine for the 49ers that season.

After the 49ers cut him the next year, Devey played three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, one with the Las Vegas Raiders, and one with the Buffalo Bills before retiring in 2021.

According to the New York Post, Devey was appointed offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at Eagle High School in Idaho earlier this year.
