In terms of financial proof, the German government noted that applicants can meet the criterion with a closed account or a declaration of commitment from a sponsor.

The authority indicated that a minimum of 1,091 euros (N1,720,507) is required per month for the duration of the stay.

In this sense, a blocked account is a type of bank account that holds a specific amount of funds and can only be withdrawn in monthly installments.

It guarantees an applicant’s ability to support themselves financially while residing in Germany.

What the Opportunity Card means for African applicants?

For many Nigerians and other African people wishing to move to Europe, the Opportunity Card provides regulated access to the German labour market.

However, the monthly financial requirement requires prospective applicants to prepare carefully and demonstrate sufficient cash before filing an application.

The German government’s clarity on this condition enables interested applicants to decide if they meet the financial level early on, avoiding unnecessary delays in the application procedure.

Germany publishes the financial requirements for overseas students. According to recent reports, Germany has published the amount that foreign students must have in a bank account to qualify for a higher education visa.

According to the German government, applicants must have €1,091 (N1,713,742) in monthly living expenditures.
