    A flat front nine will not tell you much about an electric golf push cart. Steep fairways, a fully loaded bag, wet grass, and the last few holes of a long round are much better tests.

    For hilly courses, check the incline rating, motor setup, downhill control, tires, and load capacity. For long rounds, look at battery endurance in holes and leave some reserve for elevation changes. Smart controls also deserve a closer look because remote operation and automatic following provide very different experiences on the course.

    These specifications give you something concrete to compare before you buy.

    Check the Hill Rating

    If hills are common at your home course, find the manufacturer’s maximum incline figure. Then think about how often you actually face long climbs rather than short rises around a green.

    Motor configuration matters here as well. The NAVEE Birdie series uses two rear motors rated at 120W each, with 240W peak output per motor, and lists a maximum incline of 25%. 

    That gives golfers a useful benchmark when comparing carts for rolling or hilly courses. Bag weight should be part of the calculation too. Birdie 3 and Birdie 3X support loads up to 30 kg, so check the weight of your bag, clubs, drinks, rain gear, and other equipment against the cart’s stated limit. 

    Descents deserve their own check. Look for downhill speed control or braking assistance, especially if your course has sloped paths where a loaded cart could begin picking up speed. The Birdie series includes downhill control as part of its powered drive system. 

    When comparing models from NAVEE or another brand, put incline rating, motor configuration, load capacity, and downhill control on the same line of your comparison sheet.

    Use Hole Ratings to Judge Battery Life

    Watt-hours are useful, but golfers also need to know how much golf they translate into.

    NAVEE equips the Birdie series with a 220Wh battery and rates the carts for up to 36 holes. However, the actual endurance changes with terrain and operating conditions. 

    For someone who normally plays 18 holes, a rating beyond one round leaves room for hills, grass resistance, and heavier loads. It can also reduce the need to recharge immediately after every game.

    Course profile matters. A cart doing repeated climbing will use its battery differently from the same cart moving over flat ground. NAVEE’s own range information lists up to about 18.6 miles on flat ground and about 11.2 miles on grass, which shows why a single maximum-distance figure needs context. 

    If you often play hilly 18-hole courses, choose battery capacity with reserve left for the final holes rather than planning to use every bit of the published maximum.

    Choose Between Remote Control and Auto-Follow

    Check exactly how the cart is controlled. “Smart” can refer to several different functions.

    With remote control, you direct the cart yourself. You can send it forward, change speed, stop it, or reposition it while walking. This works well for golfers who want powered transport but still prefer to control where the cart goes.

    Auto-follow removes much of that input. NAVEE Birdie 3X uses UWB-based tracking: the golfer clips the remote to a belt or pocket and the cart follows automatically. Birdie 3 does not include automatic following; it uses remote and power-assist controls instead. 

    That distinction should affect your purchase.

    If you mainly want help getting a heavy bag up hills, remote control may cover what you need. If you want to walk from shot to shot without regularly steering the cart, follow mode has a clearer benefit.

    When comparing an electric golf push cart, check whether “follow” means true automatic tracking or standard remote operation. Also check how you regain manual control around greens, tight paths, parking areas, and other places where precise positioning matters.

    Check Tires, Braking, and Tip Resistance

    A motor can move the cart uphill. The chassis still has to deal with grass, side slopes, turns, and uneven ground.

    Look at tire diameter and width. Larger, wider tires increase the contact area with the ground and are useful on grass and softer surfaces. The Birdie series uses widened 11-inch tires. 

    Then check how the cart handles tipping. NAVEE adds an anti-tipping wheel behind the main chassis, giving the cart an extra contact point when its balance shifts on inclines. 

    For a hilly course, your checklist can therefore be very simple:

    • stated incline rating
    • downhill control
    • tire size and width
    • anti-tip design
    • maximum bag load

    Those five specifications tell you more about hill use than a list of app features.

    Measure the Folded Cart Against Your Trunk

    Check the cart after it is folded, because that is the form you will deal with before and after every round.

    NAVEE lists a roughly three-second folding process and about 0.15 m³ of folded storage volume for the Birdie series.

    Use the published folded dimensions or volume to check your own vehicle. Leave room for your golf bag, shoes, and any other equipment you normally carry. If the cart only fits after moving the rest of your gear around, that inconvenience will repeat every time you play.

    Also check where the battery charges and whether it can be charged conveniently between rounds. Players who golf several times a week will notice a complicated loading or charging routine much sooner than someone who plays once a month.

    Build Your Checklist Around Your Course

    A golfer who plays a flat nine-hole course has different requirements from someone walking 18 holes over rolling terrain with a full cart bag.

    For hilly courses, record the incline rating, downhill control, tire setup, and maximum load. For longer rounds, compare battery endurance in holes and allow extra capacity for climbs. Then decide whether remote control covers your needs or whether automatic following would change how you move around the course.

    Finally, check the folded size against the space you actually have in your vehicle.

    Once those numbers and functions match your usual course, choosing between carts becomes much simpler. You know what each feature will do during the round instead of paying for specifications you may never use.
