The 2027 ODI World Cup qualifiers are scheduled to take place from Feb. 22 to March 23 next year, according to Cricinfo, though the International Cricket Council (ICC) has not yet announced a host venue for the tournament. The West Indies, currently ranked 10th in the ODI rankings, are expected to compete in the qualifiers to secure a place at the 2027 World Cup. The main tournament will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia and is scheduled to run from Oct. 4 to Nov. 21. Qualifying will be crucial for the regional side's hopes of reaching the World Cup. The West Indies have only two ODI matches remaining before the World Cup qualification cut-off, both against India in September. Their chances of avoiding the qualifiers will depend not only on those results but also on the outcome of the upcoming ODI series between eighth-ranked Afghanistan and 12th-ranked Ireland. If Ireland defeats Afghanistan 4-1 or 5-0, and West Indies win both matches against India, the Caribbean side could move into the top eight and qualify automatically. However, if Afghanistan win the series, West Indies are almost certain to miss automatic qualification and will have to compete in the qualifiers. Under the ICC's revamped format for the 2027 World Cup, announced in July, the winner of the 10-team qualifier will advance directly to the 14-team main tournament. The teams finishing second, third and fourth will instead progress to the Super Six stage, where they will compete for the final spot in the 12-team main phase of the World Cup. The 10-team World Cup qualifier will feature the two lowest-ranked full member nations in the ODI rankings, excluding hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, as of Sept. 30, 2026. They will be joined by the top four teams from CWC League 2 and the top four teams emerging from the World Cup qualifier playoff.
