The Indianapolis chapter of the Indiana Black Expo (ICIBE), along with other local organizations, has launched an initiative led by Thomas “Sparkle Soxx” Griffin recognizing June as Black Excellence Month to celebrate achievement, culture, unity and community.

Black Excellence Month is a 33-day celebration of the achievements, resilience, culture and contributions of Black people. Observed from June 1 through July 3, the initiative was created to highlight positive images of the Black community while fostering pride, unity, and appreciation of Black history and contemporary life.

“This month is an opportunity to celebrate our past, honor our present, and invest in our future by uplifting one another and strengthening our communities,” said Thomas “Sparkle Soxx” Griffin, a member of IBE. “Together, let’s shine a spotlight on the excellence that exists every day within our families, businesses, schools, churches, organizations, and neighborhoods.”

Featured observances and events include Love “ALL” Black Women Week, the Recorder Women Scholarship Event, Tuskegee Airmen Day, Support Black Business Day, Black Pride Day and Black Flag Day.

IBE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to serve as a pillar for the African American community since 1970. As a year-round, multifaceted community service organization with 12 chapters, IBE works to create and advance opportunities for families in central Indiana. See below for partnering organizations.
