Picking up where we last left off, Brooklyn visionary Joey Bada$$ takes us deeper into the story behind the man, the music, and the moments that shaped him in “LONELY AT THE TOP” – the second installment of his new documentary series, Time Will Tell. Available now on Joey’s YouTube channel, Episode Two brings viewers inside his return to the recording studio and the making of his acclaimed mixtape Lonely At The Top, featuring previously unseen moments from the creative process, including unearthed studio demos, an early version of “SUPAFLEE,” unreleased music, and appearances from Busta Rhymes, Hitmaka, and more. Episode Two unfolds like a conversation he’s finally ready to have with fans, with each scene adding nuance to the life he’s navigating now while offering an intimate look at Joey in his purest form: creating, reflecting, and processing life through the music itself.

Titled “LONELY AT THE TOP,” Episode Two offers an unfiltered portrait of an artist at work and in reflection. Moving between candid studio sessions and archival footage from the making of Lonely At The Top, the episode explores Joey’s evolving relationship with his craft and the intentionality behind this chapter of his life. What emerges is a rare window into the person behind the music; and the space where his experiences, perspective, and creativity converge.

Through Time Will Tell, fans will get their most intimate look yet at Joey Bada$$ as he reflects on the 2025 burnout that forced him to slow down, the canceled tour that reshaped his perspective, and the personal experiences that transformed him as an artist, father, and creative, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

Directed by longtime creative collaborator Waqas Ghani (@waqas.ghani), who quietly documented Joey’s journey throughout the making of ‘Lonely At The Top,’ Time Will Tell transforms a year of unseen footage into a nostalgic, cinematic portrait of an artist in constant evolution. Captured through Waqas’ signature gritty VHS lens, the film isn’t interested in revisiting the past; it asks what it truly means to evolve while continually redefining yourself.

At its core, Time Will Tell is more than a documentary — it’s a story about personal evolution and one of hip-hop’s most respected artists embracing growth on his own terms. The journey culminates with his upcoming Time Will Tell Residency at the legendary Blue Note jazz club, an intimate three-night experience designed as a live extension of the documentary. Spanning six dates across Los Angeles (August 29–31) and New York City (September 5–7), the residency reimagines more than a decade of Joey’s celebrated catalog through three distinct nightly experiences, each performed in both cities. Backed by a live band in a never-before-seen setting, the “Time Will Tell” residency takes fans on a chronological journey through Joey’s artistic evolution, pairing era-defining records with beloved fan favorites in one of the most intimate live experiences of his career.

    ABOUT JOEY BADA$$

Few rap artists have been as instrumental in keeping hip-hop alive as Joey Bada$$. Since unloading his breakout mixtape, 1999, the East Flatbush-raised artist has been at the center of boom-bap lore for more than a decade. In the process, Joey has established himself as a compelling storyteller in the culture at large.

Before he had a legacy to contemplate, Joey was born and raised Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott in Brooklyn. He attended Edward R. Murrow High School – a school dedicated to the arts – for two years before dropping out to pursue a rap career. While there, he founded the rap collective Pro Era alongside Powers Pleasant, CJ Fly, and late rapper Capital Steez. Joey went on to develop a successful solo career, proven repeatedly through a series of EPs and genre-defying albums: 2015’s B4.Da.$$, 2017’s ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$, 2022’s 2000, and his latest offering Lonely At The Top. Beyond music, Joey is still pushing forward and continuing to raise the bar, branching into acting, where he’s best known for his role as “Unique” in Power Book III: Raising Kanan. He’s also become a familiar face in the philanthropic world, underscored by his reverence for advocacy and social impact with the creation of ImpactMENtorship. At 31 years old, Joey’s prestige has grown considerably.

He recently participated as the Artist-In-Residence for NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, and is now gearing up for his next Artist-In-Residence at Columbia University’s Edmund W. Gordon Institute. In addition, the Brooklyn native was honored by Mayor Eric Adams with the proclamation of December 20, 2024, as Joey Bada$$ Day. Now, with new opportunities on the horizon, the acclaimed actor, artist, philanthropist, and style icon continues to empower the next generation while creating impact beyond visibility.
