The reunion fans have wanted for years is finally here. A decade after their last title run together at the All England Club, Serena and Venus Williams are heading back to Wimbledon. The sisters, who have a combined 21 titles between them at the annual tournament, are coming back as a doubles pair this time around. Tournament organizers recently announced the wild-card invitation, less than two weeks before the grass-court major begins.

It’s been a while since the Williams sisters last shared a doubles court for an official match. Their most recent appearance together came at the 2022 US Open, where they lost the first round. Before that, they hadn’t partnered up since the 2018 French Open, where they lost in the third round.

Serena and Venus are no strangers to the doubles experience. In fact, they’ve won the Wimbledon women’s doubles title six times, most recently in 2016. They also have 14 Grand Slam doubles titles as a pair overall. Those 14 titles have come without a single loss in a major final, highlighting why they’re the best at what they do. Their excellence extends to the Olympics as well, having won gold as a doubles team at Sydney 2000, Beijing 2008, and London 2012.

This epic return is the latest chapter in Serena’s broader return to tennis, which pleasantly caught fans by surprise this summer. The 44-year-old, who announced her retirement from the sport in 2022, stepped back onto a court at the Queen’s Club Championships earlier this month.

That comeback started well, considering the tennis icon partnered with world No. 9 Victoria Mboko and beat third seeds Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe 7-6, 6-2 in their opening match. Their winning streak was cut short, though, when Mboko suffered a knee injury during a singles match, forcing the doubles team to withdraw. Nevertheless, Williams is off to a strong start.

Venus has had a rocky 2026 in singles, going just 1-5 so far, but there is still time for her to turn it around. Because neither sister currently holds a high enough ranking to qualify outright, both will enter as wild cards, just as they did the first two times they won the title as teenagers decades ago.

We look forward to seeing these two play again and, of course, are rooting for everybody Black.
