Tomi Adeyemi, author of Children of Blood and Bone, has released a new statement describing lasting psychological and physical harm from making the Paramount film adaptation of her own novel. In the video, Adeyemi says she won't detail what she endured while writing the trilogy or getting the adaptation made. Instead, she focuses on what happened after leaving the film's set — she says she departed in visible distress, with witnesses present, and returned to the U.S. with severe physical pain and repeated panic attacks. She says the toll was serious enough that she made peace with never being able to watch the finished film. Adeyemi says the people involved at the highest levels have known about her experience for roughly 18 months without addressing it, and that she's speaking now — reluctantly — because of how the film is being marketed and because the behind-the-scenes treatment she describes hasn't stopped. This follows Adeyemi's earlier July TikTok distancing herself from the project, in which she revealed she hadn't seen the finished film and wouldn't watch it, and confirmed a falling-out with co-star Amandla Stenberg tied to a February 2025 casting controversy. Children of Blood and Bone, starring Thuso Mbedu, Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris and more, is set for release January 15, 2027. #TomiAdeyemi #ChildrenOfBloodAndBone #AmandlaStenberg #BookTok #YAFantasy #LegacyOfOrisha #MovieNews #FilmAdaptation #ParamountPictures #AuthorSpeaksOut #BlackBookTok #GinaPrinceBythewood
