    Tuskegee University President Dr. Mark A. Brown announced a stricter dress code for the 2026–2027 school year, banning bonnets, durags, house shoes, and revealing outfits in classrooms and official campus spaces. Bonnets however were the made addition to the dress code policy. Joy questions whether the bigger issue is what students were actually wearing to warrant the policy in the first place, and pushes back on the idea that respectability equals professionalism, calling it what she thinks it really is: a conversation mostly directed at Black women's hair.
