“On May 11th, I lost my best friend and brother, Alexx. Nothing prepares you for a loss like that. For the past two months, I’ve been trying to understand life, trying to understand loss, trying to understand God, and trying to understand why someone so full of life can suddenly become a memory,” he wrote.

IK recalled the dreams they shared together, from growing old to building businesses, making movies and travelling the world, adding that neither of them imagined one would leave so soon.

The light-skinned actor said the painful experience has taught him that tomorrow is never guaranteed and urged people to cherish those they love while they still have the opportunity.

“Love people while they can still hear you. Tell them you appreciate them while they can still smile back. Forgive quickly.

Call your parents. Check on your friends. Live intentionally. One day, every single one of us will become somebody’s memory,” he added.

Alex Ekubo passed away on May 11 after a brief battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer at the age of 40. His family confirmed he died at Evercare Hospital following complications from the illness.

IK Ogbonna’s tribute has since moved many fans, with several describing it as a touching reminder to value relationships and live each day with purpose.
