André 3000 is heading to Mystery Inc., joining Netflix's live-action Scooby-Doo: Origins in a recurring role. The OutKast staple and actor, whose real name is André Benjamin, is one of two new additions to the series, alongside Raging Bull and Casper veteran Cathy Moriarty, who will also recur, with the announcement landing while the show films in Atlanta.Details on exactly who the two will play are being kept under wraps, in keeping with how the production has handled its earlier casting reveals. What is confirmed is that both roles are recurring rather than one-off appearances, adding two recognizable names to a cast that has been filling out steadily.André 3000 brings a deep acting résumé to the project beyond his music career, with credits spanning the Jimi Hendrix biopic Jimi: All Is By My Side, Idlewild, Four Brothers and Be Cool, plus television work including The Shield and American Crime and his own Cartoon Network series Class of 3000. His casting also carries a quiet franchise connection: as OutKast, he and Big Boi contributed the track "Land of a Million Drums" to the 2002 Scooby-Doo film's soundtrack. The pair join a previously announced lineup fronting the reimagined origin story: Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Norville "Shaggy" Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones. Paul Walter Hauser is attached in an undisclosed role, with additional names including Sara Gilbert, Bruce McGill and Sherilyn Fenn also on board. The series is billed as a modern reimagining of the mystery-solving teens and their dog. Per the official logline, "During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy (Hagen) and Daphne (Grace) get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder," setting the group on a case that threatens to expose each of their secrets. Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg wrote the series and serve as showrunners and executive producers under their Midnight Radio banner, with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter among the executive producers via Berlanti Productions, and the show produced with Warner Bros. Television.Scooby-Doo: Origins is currently filming in Atlanta and is scheduled to premiere globally on Netflix in 2027.
