PORTER has launched "Bounce," a new bag series engineered around a triaxial woven fabric that sets it apart from the label's usual construction. The textile crosses thread in three directions, vertical, horizontal and diagonal, and PORTER has built the series to draw the maximum functional benefit from that structure. The fabric is the entire story here. Triaxial weaving produces a lattice of linked regular hexagons, the same geometry that recurs throughout nature in honeycomb, tortoise shells and the retina of the human eye, and which reads as a kind of universal functional beauty. PORTER positions the material as the world's only textile realization of that hexagonal structure, made possible through advanced production technology. What matters in use is how that translates to performance. The triaxial cloth carries notable strength, springback and shape retention, and PORTER deploys it strategically rather than across the whole bag. On the backpack it sits at the front; on the tote it lines the gusset. In both cases the fabric's restoring force pulls the bag back toward its original form, so the pieces resist sagging and hold their silhouette. The payoff is bags that stand upright on their own and shrug off the misshaping that plagues softer carriers. The rest of the material choices support that engineering-led brief. The main body uses a glossy, refined nylon that keeps the look elevated rather than purely utilitarian. At the points that meet the body, the backpack's back panel and the shoulder pads on the tote and shoulder bags, PORTER switched to "Cubic Eye" piqué light, a breathable, quick-drying fabric chosen for comfort against the wearer. For those tracking the release itself, "Bounce" is a five-model series covering backpack, messenger and shoulder-bag formats, and it lands as PORTER's first new series in roughly 14 months. That gap gives the launch some weight beyond the novelty of the fabric. The PORTER "Bounce" series releases on August 7, available at select PORTER directly-managed stores, the Yoshida Kaban online store, and BIOTOP, among other retailers.
